Winter may have been in the air Tuesday night but that would not stop the Iola Recreation flag football teams from enjoying their championship games at Riverside Park.
The first- and second-grade Dairy Queen team beat Hammerson Ready Mix in the championship 30-0.
Dairy Queen team members are Eliot Ard, Brycen Baker, Braxtin Martin, Ayden McCullough, Lane Morrison, Ty Shaughnessy, Colton Thompson and Camryn Willie. On the Hammerson Ready Mix team are Broden Emerson, Brayden Griffeth, Carter Hall, Grady Martin, Jordan Morgan, Tanner Stitt, Branton Varney and Brodon Westerman.
Colton Thompson scored two touchdowns for Dairy Queen while Braxtin Martin scored one and Ty Shaughnessy scored one. Miller had a two-point conversion as did Shaughnessy and Lane Morrison.
The third- through fifth-graders had one semi-final game to play before their finals. Nelson Quarries beat H&R Block 34-14.
For Nelson Quarries are Nick Bauer, Elza Clift, Ethan Harris, Wyatt Harris, Caden McClain, Noah Schowengerdt and Easton Weseloh and H&R Block has Hunter Doolittle, Matthew, Bella Elbrader, Hayden Kelly, Kaden Ludwig, Kolton Northcutt and Trevor Tatman.
With the win, Nelson’s Quarries advanced on to take on Iola Vision Source in the championship.
Iola Vision Source includes Thomas Cash, Dakota Cookus, Wyatt Dickerson, Braeden Frame, Joshua Pritchard, Griffin Westervelt, Henry White and Tre Wilson.
It was a defensive tussle between the two squads with both teams tied at 6 throughout the majority of the contest before Nick Bauer broke loose with very little time left in the first half to score a touchdown and an extra point sealing the 13-6 win for Nelson’s Quarries.
Noah Schowengerdt had the other touchdown for Nelson’s Quarries.
Griffin Westervelt had Iola Vision Source’s lone touchdown.
