Allen County Community College’s dance team, the Firestarters, placed fourth in the junior college division of the American Dance/Drill Team International competition in late March.
“This was a huge event and I was extremely happy with our performance,” said Mindy Covey, ACCC dance and cheer coach. “It was the hardest competition I’ve taken a dance team to since I have been the head coach here.”
Members of the 2011 Firestarters are Mariah Anstaett, Stephanie Garlock, Bethany Myers, Morgan Smith, Crystal Clay and Amanda Lee. The team scored 273 points out of a possible 300.
There were 22 colleges competing and over 3,000 high school dances at the competition.
“We went up against some big schools and came out great in our division,” Covey said.
The competition was at the University of North Texas in Denton, Texas.
