INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s junior varsity volleyball team kept the momentum rolling. The Fillies came off the championship of their own tournament Saturday to collect three match wins on the road Tuesday.
The Fillies pushed past Fort Scott 26-24, 25-21. Katie Thompson delivered five kills and a solo block plus served two aces. Breanna Stout and Chanel Coyne each had a solo block.
Mackenzie Weseloh had three set assists. Weseloh and Alyssa Zimmerman each had two ace serves and Emma Sigg had one ace.
Sigg and Zimmerman were the team’s top passers in the match. Sigg had seven digs and Zimmerman had five. Halie Cleaver had six digs.
Iola defeated Columbus 25-15, 25-15. Hannah Endicott was 13 of 14 serving with four ace serves. Zimmerman and Weseloh had three ace serves each and Sigg, Coyne and Cleaver each had an ace serve.
“We served the ball well all night,” said Casey Greenwood, Iola assistant coach. “We had good passing to set our attacks up.”
Sigg had three kills against Columbus while Stout and Coyne each had two kills. Stout made two solo blocks and Coyne had one block.
Weseloh had three set assists. Endicott had seven digs, Zimmerman had six digs and Thompson came up with four digs.
Against host Independence, the Fillies claimed a close three-set match winning 26-28, 25-23, 15-7.
“We lost the first set then were down in the second set looking like we were going to lose. The girls came back to win the set and then the match with the third set,” Greenwood said.
Coyne pounded down 11 kills and had a solo block and an assisted block. Sigg had two kills. Stout, Zimmerman, Karlie Lower and Cleaver each had a kill. Endicott had an assisted block.
Lower put up five set assists and Weseloh had four assists. Weseloh, Zimmerman and Endicott each had three digs and Sigg had two digs.
At the service line, Thompson, Lower and Sigg each had three aces. Zimmerman had one ace serve.
The top passers in the match were Sigg, Cleaver and Zimmerman.
