INDEPENDENCE — A change in schedule for Iola High’s junior varsity girls’ tennis team had the Fillies playing in a tournament at Independence. They were slated for Parsons on Tuesday.
The Fillies recorded a win in each of the four divisions Tuesday.
“We started out rough but I did see some improvement throughout the night,” said Jennifer Bycroft, Fillies’ tennis coach. “We have to work on getting our feet set, swinging through the ball and then getting back into ready position.
“But I was glad they each pulled out a win.”
Playing in No. 1 singles for Iola was Sabrina Graham. Graham’s win was a 6-4 decision over Chelsea Burroughs of Coffeyville.
Graham lost 6-3 to Angela Alger of Chanute and 6-0 to Jenna Gilstrap of Independence. Kaitlyn Shinkle of Neodesha won a tiebreaker to beat Graham 7-6.
Caressa Lowell played in No. 2 singles and won 6-1 over Taylor Neal of Coffeyville.
Lowell lost 7-5 to Lynzie King of Chanute, 6-2 to Melody Edwards of Neodesha and 6-0 to Shalei Matthews of Independence.
