The Iola High School volleyball team hosted a tournament Tuesday featuring Anderson County, Wellsville and Prairie View.
The varsity, JV and freshman squads all competed.
Iola’s varsity team, which was celebrating its senior night, lost to Prairie View in three sets (22-25, 25-22, 25-14) and Wellsville in two sets (25-21, 25-14)
Ashlie Shields and Piper Moore led the team with eight kills on the day. Moore also had 11 total assists, which were the most for the Fillies.
“Even though we started with a loss against Wellsville, we were happy with how we (competed) against them, especially in the first match,” coach Emily Sigg said. “The second match really should have been a win. This is the second tie we have fell short against Prairie View in three sets. Its disappointing because it was senior night, but the girls work and try so hard, we can only work to get better.”
The Fillies freshman team won both of its games, defeating Wellsville in three sets (18-25, 25-19, 16-14) and Prairie View in two sets (25-17, 25-15).
Iola’s JV team split its two matchups on Tuesday. The Fillies lost in two sets to Wellsville (25-20, 25-22) before defeating Prairie View in two sets (25-16, 25-16).
Katelynn Olsten led Iola with seven service aces, all of which came in the Fillies’ victory over the Buffalos.
