Alex Hill and Breail Thompson pitched no-hitters for Iola High’s Fillies at home Tuesday.
Hill and the Iola varsity softball team defeated Neodesha High’s Bluestreaks 12-0 in five innings. Hill pitched a perfect game.
Neodesha had two baserunners but both were on via errors. One was in the second inning and one in the fourth.
Hill struck out six Neodesha batters with strong defensive play behind her. Iola also had 12 hits in the game.
The Fillies scored six runs in the first inning to set the tone. They added a run in the third and five more in the fourth.
Leah Weir had two singles and a double. Megan Cook and Brandi Preston each had two singles. Hill doubled.
Hitting a single each were Molly Riebel, Lyndsi Faulhaber, Shelby Greenwood and Kylee McKarnin.
The Fillies’ varsity improved to 13-2 overall. They play at Humboldt Friday then at home Monday against Fort Scott.
The Fillies’ junior vasity didn’t have much more trouble with Neodesha. Iola scored three runs each in the first and second innings then two more in the fourth for an 8-0 win.
Thompson walked two and struck out seven batters. Iola had one error in the game.
B. Thompson was 3-for-3 with two doubles and a single driving in three runs. Lauren Toney didn’t get a hit but was on three times and scored all three times.
Caitlyn Callaway, Katie Thompson, Kayla Knavel and Holly Schomaker each had a single.
Iola’s junior varsity plays at Yates Center next Wednesday.
