Fillies take doubleheader from Lady Cubs

HUMBOLDT — Iola High’s Fillies dominated play Friday against host Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs.
The Fillies rolled to a 16-0 win in five innings to begin the doubleheader. Alex Hill threw a no-hitter for  Iola.
Taylyn Wells was the losing pitcher for Humboldt. She gave up three walks and had one strikeout.
Iola scored six runs in the first and five in the  second inning. The Fillies  had 15 hits plus took full advantage of walks and Humboldt errors.
The Fillies plated one run in the third and four more in the fifth.
Leah Weir connected for two singles and a double for the Fillies. Kylee McKarnin had a two-run double in the second.
Brandi Preston hit three singles. Hill and Megan Cook each produced two singles. Hitting a single each were Amanda Carr, Molly Riebel, Lyndsi Faulhaber and Lauren Toney.
Iola used Breail Thompson on the mound in the second game. Iola won 13-3 in six innings.
Humboldt scored three runs in the second to make it 4-3. The Fillies added two runs in the third then had a five-run fourth inning. Iola produced two runs in the sixth.
Thompson gave up seven hits, walked one and struck out six. Wells pitched for the Lady Cubs, walking three and strikeout out three.
Cook led the Iola offense with three  singles and Pres-ton had two singles. Dominique Stokes hit a double and a single. Riebel and B. Thompson each had a single.
For the Lady Cubs, Wells cranked out a double and a single. Julie Seibert had two singles. Hitting a single each were Amanda Maxton, Kylee Carson and Hannah Fiene.
The Fillies improved to 15-2 while the Lady Cubs are 6-11.
Iola’s final Southeast Kansas League doubleheader was to have been played today at home against Fort Scott.
The games have been rained out and will not be rescheduled.
Humboldt was scheduled to play at Caney in Tri-Valley League action today.
