The Iola Fillies softball team walked off the field after getting a sweep at Neodesha on Thursday with the confidence of a team that’s won five of their last six games.  The recent wins come on the heels of a rough start to the season. The Fillies hope to carry the momentum into the postseason with a higher seeding.

The Fillies beat Neodesha 6-4 and 10-1 to move to an even 6-6 overall after a 1-5 start to the season.

Neodesha drops to 5-7.

Iola came out strong in game one, putting up three runs on the board to start the first inning including a two-run homer by junior Kelsey Morrison.

The Lady Blue Streaks responded in the bottom of the second and added two runs of their own to get within a run and then in the third, they tied it up at 3-3.

Neodesha took its first lead in the bottom of the fourth.

The advantage didn’t last long. Iola tied things back up at four heading into a scoreless sixth inning.

Iola managed to get across two runs in the top of the seventh and then starter Reece Murry and the Fillies defense shut the door, ending the game on a throwout from sophomore catcher Lauryn Holloway to senior second baseman Madisyn Holloway.

Murry ended the game with 10 strikeouts and four walks.

Senior Paige Burrough had two-hits including a double in the game along with Morrison who also had two hits.

The Fillies let their dominance show a little more in game two.

After two scoreless innings, the Fillies put up six runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings to take a 6-0 lead.

They added another in the sixth before Neodesha countered with one of its own to keep Iola’s lead at six.

The Fillies closed off the seventh with three runs to push their lead to nine and get them the win.

Lauryn Holloway had a three-hit game, including two doubles, while Madisyn Holloway, junior Nissa Fountain and sophomore Kailey Schinstock each had two hits.

Sophomore pitcher Jenna Miller had nine strikeouts and a walk in the win.
