Fillies play abbreviated home tennis meet

Iola High’s Fillies only have one home tennis meet a season. It was slated for Sept. 2 but was rained out and moved to Wednesday.
Independence and Parsons were able to make it back to Iola. Columbus wasn’t.
Also, Iola’s No. 2 singles player Hallie Wolf missed the meet because of illness.
Jasmine Bannister is Iola’s No. 1 singles player and played three matches — two in her division and against Independence’s No. 2 singles player. Bannister defeated Zoe McCollam of Independence 8-5.
In the No. 1 singles matches, Bannister lost 8-0 to Independence’s Diona Mendoza and 8-1 to Bailey Foster of Parsons.
Iola’s No. 1 doubles team of Dannette Newland and Autumn Snesrud lost both of its matches. Newland and Snesrud lost 8-0 to Ashlyn Conner and Erin Wesselowski of Independence and 8-4 to Brea Harris and Bre Rogers of Parsons.
Nina Froggatte and Abbey St. Clair  went 0-2 in No. 2 doubles for Iola. They lost 8-0 to Emily Derrick and Taylor Mason of Independence and 8-6 to Kelsey Jump and Samantha Fletcher of Parsons.
The Fillies’ varsity players go to Pittsburg today.
On Monday the Iola junior varsity players competed at Parsons in a tournament.
In No. 1 singles, Audrey Payne beat Beth Ungles of Chanute 6-3 then lost 6-1 to Jennifer Nickleson of Parsons and 6-5 (7-1) to Scarlett Manley of Coffeyville. Payne placed sixth in her division.
Abbey St. Clair finished seventh in the No. 2 singles division. She lost 6-0 to Zoe McCollam of Independence and to Hannah Messer of Fort Scott. She notched a 6-0 decision over Chelsi Burrough of Coffeyville.
Iola’s doubles teams both went 0-3.
Megan Smith and Katie Lieurance were in the No. 1 doubles spot. They lost 6-0 decisions to Parsons’ Bren Harris and Kelsey Jump and Coffeyville’s Breckler and Harrell. They lost 6-1 to Chanute’s Thuston and Hernandez.
Makayla Robb and Brittany Porter played at No. 2 doubles. They lost 6-3 to Chanute’s Rayen Olson and Leticia Cervantez, 6-1 to Parsons’ Samantha Feltcher and Jessica Nickleson and 6-1 to Coffeyville’s Rachel Jones and Tiasa Hulls.
The junior varsity goes to Chanute next Monday and Neodesha Tuesday.
