CHANUTE — Iola High’s Fillies got the fall sports season under way Thursday. They played in Chanute High’s Invitational tennis tournament.
The Fillies’ Five — the team had five seniors who return to the team — competed in No. 1 doubles, No. 2 doubles and No. 1 singles.
Hallie Wolf and Jasmine Bannister went 2-2 on the day in No. 1 doubles. Wolf and Bannister defeated Kaysha Julich and Allie Reynolds of Labette County 8-7 (7-2).
Wolf and Bannister dropped an 8-6 decision to Neodesha’s Tabitha and Becky Patchett. They also lost 8-4 to Chanute’s Jade Gardner and Madison Wendt.
Iola’s pair finished strong with an 8-4 victory over Columbus’ Kelsey Hill and Ryleigh Schoech.
Autumn Snesrud and Nina Froggatte went 1-3 in No. 2 doubles competition. Their lone win was 8-3 over Columbus’ Breanna Mogle and Ashley Simpson.
Snesrud and Froggatte opened with an 8-1 loss to Neodesha’s Jacie Newland and Carlotta Cores. They also lost 8-5 to Labette County’s Kelsey Eckelberry and Paige Wells and lost 9-4 to Chanute’s Jeana Lawrence and Ashley Parrett.
Dannette Newland was Iola’s No. 1 singles player for the meet. She posted a 1-3 mark.
Newland finished the day with an 8-0 win over Columbus’s Alyssa Goodwin. She lost 8-0 to Katie Anderson of Labette County, lost 8-0 to Neodesha’s Alyssa Schulte and dropped an 8-1 decision to Chanute’s Czarina Romos.
Iola hosts Parsons, Independence and Columbus next Thursday.
