Fillies net three wins in tennis at Pittsburg

PITTSBURG — Picking up wins in both doubles divisions and in No. 2 singles, Iola High’s Fillies had their second day in a row of action on the tennis courts Thursday.
Hallie Wolf, who missed Wednesday’s home matches because of illness, defeated Ashlee Simpson of Columbus 8-1 in No. 2 singles.
Wolf lost 8-2 to Heather Hobbs of Fort Scott and 8-0 to Pittsburg’s Chapril Stewart and Labette County’s Lakyn Baughman.
Iola’s No. 1 doubles team of Dannette Newland and Autumn Snesrud captured an 8-3 victory over Columbus’ Kelsey Hill and Ryleigh Schoech. The twosome dropped a heartbreaker 8-7 (7-3 to Fort Scott’s Michelle Bontain and Corina Harrison.
Pittsburg’s Sammi Highfield and Kacey Sinclair defeated Newland and Snesrud 8-1. They also lost 8-1 to Kays Julich and Ally Reynolds of Labette County.
Nina Froggatte and Audrey Payne played as the Fillies’ No. 2 doubles team. They took an 8-1 decision over Alyssa Goodson and Brea Mogle of Columbus.
Payne and Froggatte lost 8-1 to Fort scott’s Kalia Dancy and Courtney Crain and 8-1 to Kelsey Eckelberry and Lora Nance of Labette County. Pittsburg’s Rashell Hall and Robin Brummitt cruised past Iola’s pair 8-0.
The Iola varsity has one more regular season tournament then the Southeast Kansas League tournament at Chanute on Oct. 2.
The Class 4A regional is Oct. 8.
