COFFEYVILLE — Iola High’s Fillies have Saturday’s Southeast Kansas League tournament to play before the end of the tennis regular season.
The Fillies played at Coffeyville Thursday and came up with one win in 16 matches.
“Though it wasn’t the outcome I would have liked, the girls did have some nice shots and good placement of shots,” said Jennifer Bycroft, Fillies’ head coach.
“We have to go back to basics sometimes. We have to be better at anticipating the ball.”
Bycroft said the doubles teams have to learn to communicate on the court better and help each other.
The lone win came in No. 2 doubles as Nina Froggatte and Audrey Payne defeated Abudu and Manley of Coffeyville 8-6.
The Iola pair lost 8-0 to Ong and Kipp of Parsons, 8-1 to Hall and Brummitt of Pittsburg and 8-2 to Lawrence and Tucker of Chanute.
Dannette Newland and Autumn Snesrud played in the No. 1 doubles division for Iola. They dropped a pair of 8-3 decisions to Gillman and Smith of Coffeyville and to Gardner and Wendt of Chanute. They lost 8-0 to Parsons’ Mosier and Riggin and to Pittsburg’s Highfield and Sinclair.
Jasmine Bannister was Iola’s No. 1 singles player. She lost 8-5 to Jordan Hayes of Coffeyville.
Bannister dropped three 8-0 decisions to Parsons’ Sara Ong, Pittsburg’s Ashton Born an Chanute’s Czarina Ramos.
In No. 2 singles, Iola’s Hallie Wolf lost 8-3 to Callie McAskill of Coffeyville. She lost 8-0 to Amy Shaw of Parsons and Chapril Stewart of Pittsburg. She also dropped an 8-1 match to Carlyn Ward of Chanute.
The SEK tournament is in Chanute. Play begins at 9 a.m.
