Iola High’s Fillies and Mustangs found out where they will be seeded in next week’s 2011 Burlington High Invitational basketball tournament. The tournament bracket was released Wednesday.
The Fillies, who finished fifth last year, earned the No. 4 seed at 5-3. Burlington and Sabetha, both 6-1, are No. 1 and No. 2, respectively. Sabetha is the defending girls’ champion.
Labette County (4-2) is third seeded. Topeka-Hayden (3-2) is fifth with Santa Fe Trail (2-4) at sixth, Paola (2-5) at seventh and Rossville (0-8) at eighth.
On the boys’ side, the Mustangs are seeded eighth at 0-8. Burlington (6-1) is top seeded followed by Sabetha (5-2) at No. 2.
Defending boys’ champion, Topeka-Hayden (3-2) is third seeded. Rossville (4-4) is fourth seeded with Santa Fe Trail (3-3) is fifth and Labette County (2-4) is seventh.
The Fillies play Hayden at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Burlington Middle School gym. A victory puts the Fillies in the semifinals on Friday at the high school and a loss sends them to the consolation bracket at BMS the same day.
The Mustangs take on Burlington at 8:15 p.m. Tuesday in the Burlington High gym. A victory moves them to the semifinals at the high school and a loss drops them into the consolation bracket on Friday.
The tournament concludes on Saturday afternoon.
