Iola High’s Fillies and Mustangs were seeded sixth in their respective brackets of the 2010 Kansas Class 4A Substate Basketball Tournament. The seedings and pairings came out Wednesday.
The substate tournament is hosted by Labette County High School in Altamont. First-round games are played at higher-seeded team sites.
Top seeds in the tournament are the Girard High girls (19-1) and the Coffeyville boys (16-2).
Sitting at No. 6 in both divisions, Iola’s teams face the third-seeded teams, which are Independence High’s teams. The Fillies are 7-12 and the Lady Bulldogs are 13-6. The Mustangs are 5-14 and the Bulldogs are 10-9.
That sets up a doubleheader at Independence Monday. The girls’ game is at 6 p.m. followed by the boys at 7:30 p.m.
For the girls’ bracket, Girard hosts Coffeyville (0-8), second-seeded Labette County (15-4) hosts Parsons (6-13) and fourth-seeded Chanute (11-8) hosts Columbus (8-12). The girls’ games are on Monday with semifinals on Thursday at LCHS.
In the boys’ bracket, Coffeyville hosts Girard (4-16), second-seeded Parsons (14-5) hosts Columbus (4-16) and fourth-seeded Chanute (8-11) hosts Labette County (7-12). The boys’ games are Tuesday with semifinals on Friday at Labette County.
The 4A substate championship games are at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Altamont. The champions advance to the 2010 Kansas Class 4A State Basketball Tournaments in Salina, March 10-13.
