Fillies finish third, Mustangs fourth at Osawatomie

High School Track and Field: Iola Mustangs and Fillies

Iola track and field competed at Osawatomie Thursday. The Fillies finished second as a team and the Mustangs finished fourth. The Fillies beat all three of the Pioneer League school in attendance (Anderson County, Burlington and Osawatomie) and were without junior Kassy Shelby who has been a solid force and points-getter for Iola so far this season.

Sophomore Elysia Kunkler had a clean sweep of her three events, finishing first in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.60 seconds, which was the fastest fully automated timed race she has run in an Iola uniform.

She also finished first in the 100-meter dash (13.08) and first in the long jump (16’9”).

Junior Ellie Carson finished second in both the high hurdles (16.83) and the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 51.53, which was a season-best.

Kylee Maloney finished second in the long jump with a distance of 15 feet. She also finished fifth in the 400 (1:08.41).

Sophomores Elka Billings was third in the 800 with a time of 2:31.66. The time was a season- and personal-best for Billings and was 8 seconds faster than any previous time that she’s ran.

Senior Nora Gostner finished third in the 100 (13.78) and third in the discus (95’6.75”). She also finished fifth in the 200 with a time of 28.45, which was a personal best.

Freshman Hannah Gardner finished fourth in the 400 with a time of 1:87.92.

Sophomore Gaby Lampe finished fourth in the pole vault with a jump of 6 feet and freshman Callie Murko finished right behind her in fifth with a personal best jump of 6 feet. Freshman Averie Sharon finished sixth in the 3200 (14:42.35) and senior Erin Klubek placed sixth in the triple jump (26’09”).

The 4×400 relay team of Gardner, Kunkler, Billings and Maloney finished fourth with a season-best time of 4:29.75 and the 4×800 team of freshman Jessica Tidd, junior Marta Iglesias-Gonzalez, freshman Lori Carpenter and freshman Taelyn Maley finished fourth with a time of 12:18.21.

For the Mustangs, it was the 4×800-meter relay team of freshman Jack Adams, senior Cole Regehr, senior Nathan Sprague and junior Tavon Bass that led the way with a time of 9:06.02 which was good for first.

Anchor Regehr ran a personal best 800 team in the race which led to breaking the team’s previous personal best by 9 seconds.

“Our goal is to break the 9:00 mark,” head coach Dana Daugharthy said. “I believe that we can do it in the next couple of weeks.”

Sophomore Christian Floyd continued to be a steady throwing force, finishing second in the shot put with a throw of 41’9.5” and the discus with a throw of 126’11”, which was a personal best.

Senior Christian Jackson finished third in the pole vault with a distance of 8’6” and senior Kan-yon Beasley finished fifth in both the discus (111’11”) and the javelin (131’11.5”).
