INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s Fillies came away with experience but no wins from the tennis matches Thursday at Independence.
Autumn Snesrud played in her first varsity singles matches for Iola. Abbey St. Clair moved into doubles at the varsity level for the first time.
“Autumn did a good job with some passing shots and looking for the open court,” said Jennifer Bycroft, Iola High girls’ tennis coach.
“Our doubles teams need to learn to make the adjustments while playing and working better together.”
Iola’s No. 1 singles player, Dannette Newland, lost her first three matches. She had to leave early for family reasons so defaulted on her last match.
Newland lost 8-4 to Taylor Bailey of Fort Scott. She dropped 8-0 decisions to Czarina Ramos of Chanute and Kayla Steinle of Independence. The default win went to Pittsburg’s Ashton Born.
Snesrud lost all four of her matches by an 8-1 score. She lost to Fort Scott’s Kalia Dancy, Chanute’s Carlyn Ward, Independence’s Lexi Dent and Pittsburg’s Chap-ril Stewart.
Playing No. 1 doubles for Iola were Jasmine Bannister and Hallie Wolf. They lost 8-2 to Michelle Buntain and Corina Harrison of Fort Scott, 8-0 to Jade Gardner and Madison Wendt of Chanute, 8-0 to Ashlee Carr and Kelby McGrath of Independence and 8-1 to Sammie Highfield and Erica Spring-er of Pittsburg.
Nina Froggatte and St. Clair combined for No. 2 doubles.  They lost 8-2 to Fort Scott’s Courtney Crain and Heather Hobbs and Chanute’s Breianna Brooks and Jessica Tucker. They lost 8-0 to Independence’s Molly Mangan and Lexy Mangan and to Pittsburg’s Robin Brummitt and Rashelle Hall.
The Fillies go to Chanute Thursday. Iola’s home meet is Sept. 22.
