Fillies fall to Santa Fe Trail and Osawatomie

The Iola Fillies volleyball team (5-8) went 0-2 on Tuesday at Osawatomie, falling to both host Lady Trojans and Santa Fe Trail.
Iola struggled with Santa Fe Trail, falling in two sets (25-16, 25-15).
Senior Colbi Riley had a team high 4 aces and 3 kills in set one to go along with a block and a dig.
Junior Piper Moore had 5 assists and a kill.
Things didn’t improve in set two as the Fillies recorded only 1 ace and 5 kills while hitting at zero percent.
Moore recorded 5 assists and a dig while Karli McGuffin and Shaylee Sutterby both had one block.
Iola regained some of its footing in the second match, falling 2-1 to Osawatomie (25-10,  22-25, 20-25).
The Fillies had their best set of the night in set one with Moore not doing anything on the scoring end but passing the ball well, recording 7 assists and a dig.
Sutterby had 3 kills while Riley led  the team in aces with 3.
Iola almost got a sweep to close out the day in set two but fell just short.
Six different Fillies contributed on the offensive end with Moore and senior Katie Bauer leading the way with 2 kills. Moore also contributed four assists and was one of three Iola players (including Bauer) to record an ace.
Riley had the team’s only block.
Finally in set three, Moore had four aces, two kills, four assists and three digs as the Fillies lost another close one.
The Fillies will compete in the Burlington tournament on Saturday.
