Iola High’s Fillies came out on the short end of two scores at home Monday. The double loss came in Southeast Kansas League play.
The Fillies lost 22-2 in five innings and 10-2 to visiting Parsons High’s Lady Vikings.
“Our youthfulness showed (Monday) night,” said Vince Coons, Fillies’ head coach. “Too many out opportunities given up leave our pitchers hanging in the circle too long.”
Iola had 12 errors in the first game and committed six in the second contest.
Breail Thompson took the pitching loss in the first game. She gave up 11 hits walked seven and struck out five.
Iola scored single runs in the second and third innings. Leah Weir and Halie Cleaver each had a single.
Iola only scored two runs in the second game also but had five hits. Holly Schomaker had a single and a double. Weir doubled and Lauren Toney and Caitlyn Callaway each had a single.
“Offensively, we are improving each game but defensively we need to step it up to another level,” Coons said.
Weir pitched the second game for Iola. She allowed eight hits, four walks, hit a batter and struck out four.
Iola is 2-8 in SEK play and 2-10 overall. The Fillies take on Humboldt in the first round of Thursday’s softball tournament hosted by Yates Center High School.
Iola and Humboldt play at approximately 2 p.m. in Yates Center. Yates Center plays Neodesha at noon.
