LA CYGNE — Holding a 2-0 lead going into the bottom of the fifth, Iola High’s Fillies ran into trouble Monday.
Osawatomie High’s Trojans scored five runs to take the lead. The Fillies responded by tying the game up in the top of the sixth.
Breail Thompson and Haley Cleaver had back-to-back singles. With two gone, Leah Weir reached on an error and Libby Shay hit a two-run double.
Osawatomie responded with two runs in its half of the inning. TheTrojans won the game 7-5.
The Fillies were playing two non-league games Monday hosted by Prairie View High’s Buffalos.
Prairie View run-ruled Iola 14-1 in five innings in its second game.
B. Thompson went the distance in the first game for Iola. She gave up 10 hits, walked five and struck out six. She and Mackenzie Weseloh pitched in the second game.
In the first game, Holly Schomaker had two singles and a double and B. Thompson had two singles. Weir, Lauren Toney, Weseloh and Cleaver each singled. In the second game, Weir, Shay, B. Thompson and Katie Thompson each had a single.
The Fillies (2-6) are at Independence today for Southeast Kansas League games.
