INDEPENDENCE — Iola High’s Fillies scored eight runs in the opener against host Independence High’s Lady Bulldogs Tuesday. But it wasn’t enough.
They lost 10-8. The Fillies had 13 hits in the game but left runners stranded throughout the seven in-nings.
“We need more run production by the lower part of our batting order. We had good hitting, just couldn’t come up with key hits at times,” said Vince Coons, Fillies’ head coach.
Mackenzie Weseloh was 4-for-4 with four singles. Holly Schomaker, Katie Thompson and Carrie Mock each had two base hits.
Breail Thompson doubled. Lauren Toney and Halie Cleaver each had a single.
Breail Thompson was the losing pitcher, giving up 16 hits. She walked one and struck out five. Iola had four errors in the game.
Six errors led to a very long three innings for the Fillies in the second game. Independence won 18-3 and had 14 hits.
Weseloh and B. Thompson pitched for Iola.
Weseloh connected for a double and a single and scored two runs. B. Thompson doubled. Toney and Cleaver each had a single.
Iola is 2-6 in Southeast Kansas League play. Iola (2-8) hosts Parsons Monday.
