Iola High’s Fillies won the 2009 Kansas Class 4A regional softball tournament last year. They have a 15-2 record.
That got them the No. 2 seed in the 2010 Kansas Class 4A Softball Regional tournament. This year’s tournament is hosted by Ottawa High School.
The top seed in the Ottawa regional went to Paola at 18-2. Iola defeated Paola 2-1 in last year’s regional title game.
Ottawa (13-7) is the No. 3 seed and Osawatomie (11-7) is seeded fourth.
The Fillies play No. 7 seeded Louisburg (7-13) at 4:45 p.m. Monday at Orlis Cox Complex in Ottawa on field No. 7. The following game has Ottawa playing No. 6 seeded Baldwin (8-10).
If Iola and Ottawa win in the opening round that will bring a rematch from last year’s state tournament. Ottawa defeated Iola 5-0 in the first round at the 4A state tournament in Salina.
Osawatomie plays Prairie View (12-8), which is seeded fifth, at 4:45 Monday followed by Paola taking on eighth-seeded Anderson County (2-18).
Semifinals will be at 4:45 p.m. Tuesday. The championship game is set for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Field 7. The regional champion goes to the Kansas Class 4A State Softball Tournament, May 28-29, in Salina.
New to the regional this year are Baldwin and Ottawa.
Chanute and Fort Scott join Labette County, Coffeyville, Columbus, Girard, Independence and Parsons in a 4A regional hosted by Fort Scott.
