Cross country and volleyball teams at Iola High and area high schools are finishing up regular season competition over the next week.
Next week, teams focus on postseason competition, volleyball substate tournaments and cross country regional meets. Both competitions are on Saturday, Oct. 22.
Fall postseason assignments were announced a week ago.
On the line are trips to state tournaments and meets. The Kansas high school state volleyball tournaments and cross country meets are on Saturday, Oct. 29.
Iola High’s volleyball team is in a Class 4A substate at Garnett. The IHS cross country teams are in the 4A regional meet at Ottawa.
Humboldt High’s volleyball team has been assigned to the Class 3A substate hosted by Burlington. The Cub cross country teams are at the 3A regional at Burlington also.
In Class 2A, Yates Center High’s volleyball team is at the Olpe substate while Marmaton Valley High and Uniontown High are in the Oswego substate. Cross country teams from Marmaton Valley and Uniontown will run in the 2A regional hosted by Jayhawk-Linn High in Mound City.
Southern Coffey County High’s volleyball team is in the Class 1A, Division I substate at Waverly. Crest High’s Lady Lancers are in the Class 1A, Division II substate at Chetopa.
Crest’s cross country team is at the Class 1A regional hosted by Riley County High at Leonardville.
Winning teams from the volleyball substate tournaments advance to state tournaments. The Kansas Class 4A and 3A state volleyball tournaments are at Salina, Oct. 28-29. The Class 2A state tournament is at Emporia and the Class 1A divisions’ state tournaments are at Hays that same weekend.
For cross country, the top three teams for boys and for girls advance along with the top 10 runners. There can be additional individual qualifiers, who are not on the top three teams.
The Kansas Class 4A, 2A and 1A state cross country races are at Wamego and the Class 3A state meet is at Lawrence.
