Ally Ellis defined versatility for Iola High’s volleyball program in 2021.

While she handled setting duties for much of her high school career, Ellis was placed on the front row as one of the Mustangs’ middle hitters her senior season.

That’s because head coach Amanda Holman had to replace nearly the entire starting lineup because of heavy graduation losses.

And Holman was well aware of Ellis’s prolific jumping ability.

“She may be 5-2, but she can outjump girls who are 5-10,” Holman said with a chuckle.

Holman spoke Friday at Ellis’ letter of intent signing ceremony to play volleyball in the fall at Ozark Christian College.

“One thing she models is resilience,” Holman said. When Ellis was offered the front row position, “she jumped on it, and worked hard in the weight room. She has a great attitude and was a great teammate. Even when things weren’t going 100%, she made the best of it.

“Attitude goes a long way.”

Ellis compiled 56 kills for the 7-25 Mustang squad, which was facing a nearly total rebuild from the year before.

She was second on the team by serving at a 90.1% success rate, and third with 172 aces. She tied for second on the team with 61 blocks as well

Playing volleyball at OCC fills two dreams, Ellis said.

“I love the sport, and I love the school,” she said.

Ellis also competes in track and field and with Iola’s powerlifting team.

She is the daughter of Jared and Katie Ellis.
