EUREKA — Two more Humboldt wrestlers punched their ticket to state over the weekend. Both Gunner Elder and Andrew Watts qualified for the 3A-2A-1A state wrestling meet to be held in Hays this Friday and Saturday.

In 138-pound action, Elder won by fall over Cullen Mutz of Cherokee-Southeast in the quarterfinals, and won by technical fall in the semifinals to cement his place in the championship bout. There, Elder lost by 3-2 decision to finish runner-up at regionals.

Watts cruised through to the championship match with three wins by falls on Friday in the 285-pound weight class. Watts lost in his first-place match by fall to Wellsville’s Colby Stephens, meaning like Elder, he was a regional runner-up.

The 3A-2A-1A state wrestling meet will be held at the Fort Hays State University-Gross Memorial Coliseum.
