Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks put together a 178 team total to win the 2012 Marmaton Valley High Invitational golf tournament Monday.
The tournament was played at Allen County Country Club in Gas. The event was halted for 30 minutes because of lightning.
“Because of the delay, half of the field did not get 18 holes in by dark so we scored and placed the tournament off everyone’s first nine hole scores,” said Mike McEwan, MVHS golf coach.
Mason Coffman of Pleasanton and Keaton Page of Erie each had a 42 for the first nine holes and went first and second individually.
Of the area schools in the tournament, Uniontown High’s Eagles placed fifth with a 223 and Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats were sixth with a 228. Yates Center only had one golfer in the tournament.
Uniontown’s Seth Sympson shot a 49 for 12th and Chance Stevenson of Marmaton Valley was 13th with a 50. Nick Schemper of Yates Center finished 20th with a 53.
Other scores for Uniontown were: Zach Travis with a 55, Chance Hoener with a 57, Brendon Wood with a 62 and Drew George with a 72.
Joining Stevenson on the Marmaton Valley team were Joey Jefferis with a 57, Mitch Covey at 59, Anthony Tucker and Lane Hamm each with a 62.
