MOUND CITY — Just a couple days before, Uniontown High’s Eagle girls got waxed by Jayhawk-Linn High’s Jayhawks, 44-24, in the third-place game of the Pleasanton High tournament.

Tuesday it was a Three Rivers League matchup on the Jayhawks’ court. The Eagle girls came out on top this time, 33-25.

Uniontown High’s boys stayed the course throughout their contest with the Jayhawks. The Eagles notched a league win by the score of 54-43.

“Boy, this was really a good win for us when we really needed it,” said Ken Holt, UHS girls’ head coach. “I can’t say enough about our defense tonight. It was really good.”

Uniontown’s girls opened with a 6-3 surge in the first quarter. Jayhawk-Linn came back and the teams were knotted 10-all at halftime.

The Eagles seized control on a 10-4 third-quarter run. They outscored the Jayhawks 13-11 in the final eight minutes.

Hayden Rathbun drained three three-pointers on her way to a game-high 18 points. She also cleared nine rebounds and had two steals for the Eagles.

Hope Jurgensen had seven rebounds. Tayler Shook handed out five assists and Lauren Rockhold made two steals.

“Hayden and Hope did what they usually do but Lauren was everywhere and had her hands on basketballs all night long,” Holt said. “This keeps our league hopes alive as well.”

The Eagle girls are 2-1 in Three Rivers League play and 7-6 overall. The Jayhawks dropped to 2-2 and 6-6.

Jayhawk-Linn was led by Emma Hargrove with nine points.

WITH THE WIN, the Eagle boys stayed atop the TRL at 3-0 and 9-4.

Uniontown held a 12-10 edge at the close of the first quarter and was up 21-19 at halftime. The Eagles again put up a 12-10 spot in the third quarter.

Uniontown expanded its lead with a 21-14 run in the final period.
