MORAN — Uniontown High’s Eagles dominated the Three Rivers League softball doubleheader against host Marmaton Valley High’s Wildcats Monday.

The Eagles turned an 8-2 lead into a 23-2 win by scoring 15 runs in the third inning of the opener. Uniontown benefited from 25 walks issued by Marmaton Valley pitchers.

Uniontown got two singles from Torrie Hathaway and a single each from Jessica Murrow and Mandie Ridge. Marmaton Valley had two hits in the game, one was a two-run home run by Kailey Boyd.

Taylor Wade was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. She walked two and struck out five. Tabitha Ford took the loss for the Wildcats but Marmaton Valley High head coach Brenda Mills said, “we tried about every girl pitching  to find someone who could throw strikes.”

“We scored lots of runs. Their pitchers had trouble throwing strikes so we didn’t get very many chances to hit the ball,” said Alan Shinn, UHS head coach.

The Eagles got a few more hits in the second game, which they won 19-0 in three innings. Ridge pitched  a near-perfect game, throwing a no-hitter. She hit one batter and struck out one batter.

“Our pitchers — Taylor and Mandie — pitched exceptionally well. Mandie faced the minimum amount of batters in three innings (9). Marmaton Valley’s only base runner came when Mandie hit its second batter of the first inning. We threw her out while she attempted to steal second base. Our defense was excellent in both games,”

Hope Jurgensen had a double and a single for the Eagles. Jamie Dawson tripled. Britney Stokes and Tayler Shook each had a single.

Marmaton Valley’s Kayla Beth took the pitching loss, giving up five hits, walking three, hitting two batters and striking out one.

Marmaton Valley goes to West Elk today for one game then the Wildcats host St. Paul Thursday.

Uniontown (10-2) hosts Hume, Mo., High Thursday.

The Eagles split a TRL doubleheader Friday with Jayhawk-Linn, losing 8-3 and winning 4-3.

Wade took the loss in the first game for Uniontown. Stokes and Jurgensen each had a double. Ridge, Hathaway and Dawson had a single apiece.

In the second game, Ridge post the pitching victory. Wade tripled and Shook doubled. Hitting a single each were Stokes, Jurgensen, Ridge, Dawson and Murrow.
