PLEASANTON — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls did just enough early on to control the opening round game against Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs. The Eagles led 28-13 at halftime then dominated the second half Tuesday night for a 55-16 win.
Uniontown allowed only three points to be scored by Humboldt in that second half. The win puts the Eagles in the semifinals of the 2010 Pleasanton Blu-Jays Mid-Season Tournament.
Crest High’s Lady Lancers also mustered just 16 points against second-seeded Jayhawk-Linn Tuesday.
The Jayhawk-Linn High Jayhawks swooped to a 32-5 halftime advantage on their way to a 59-16 win.
Uniontown, which placed eighth in this tournament a year ago, takes on Prairie View at 7 p.m. Thursday in Pleasanton High’s north gym. Prairie View blasted Northeast-Arm 62-31 Tuesday.
Humboldt plays Northeast at 4 p.m. Thursday in the south gym in consolation play. Crest takes on Pleasanton, a 40-11 loser to Central Heights Tuesday, at 8:30 p.m. Thursday in the south gym.
The Eagles were led by Tiffany Poyner with 14 points. Abbie Smith tossed in 12 and Brooke Harper had 10. Jacy Ermel pulled down 11 rebounds and Hope Jurgensen had five of the Eagles’ 22 steals.
Humboldt’s leading scorer was Kindahl Young with eight points.
Crest’s top scorers against Jayhawk-Linn were Kristen Golden and Amanda Strickler with six points each. Meriel Long had 15 points for Jayhawk-Linn.
