HUMBODLT – Halftime was good for Uniontown High’s Eagles.
The Eagle boys came out of the break, scored 12 unanswered points to turn Thursday’s second-round tournament game around.
They had trailed Erie High’s Red Devils 23-20 at halftime but ended up winning the game 48-35.
Thursday’s victory evened the Eagles’ mark in Humboldt High’s Second Annual Emprise Bank Basketball Tournament at 1-1. The Eagles (2-1) played Crest High’s Lancers Friday night in the final round of the round-robin event.
The Eagles clamped down with solid defense, especially in the third quarter against the Red Devils.
Uniontown erased the three-point deficit and didn’t give up Erie’s only three points of the period until Kyle Spielbusch hit a three-pointer with 36 seconds remaining.
Uniontown allowed just nine more points in the second half to gain the victory.
Seth Sympson poured in 17 points, going 5 of 6 at the free-throw line, for the Eagles. Zach Travis drained four treys on his way to 15 points.
Uniontown cashed in 12 of 20 free throw tosses while Erie was 10 of 14.
Keith Marquardt had eight points for the Red Devils. Spielbusch ended up with seven.
