Eagles beat Lady Cubs

HUMBOLDT —  Uniontown High’s Eagles had the last rally in both games against host Humboldt High’s Lady Cubs Thursday.
The Eagles swept a non-league doubleheader at Humboldt’s Manion Field, winning 10-7 and 12-5. The Eagles improved to 11-3 while the Lady Cubs dropped to 6-9.
Humboldt hosts Iola in a non-league twin bill today at 4:30. The Lady Cubs finish the regular season at Caney Valley Monday.
Uniontown hosts Chetopa Monday and goes to St.Paul Thursday to end the regular season.
The Eagles got out to a 6-0 lead, then Humboldt used a five-run third to get right back in the game. The Lady Cubs pushed across two runs in the fourth to lead 7-6.
Uniontown scored four runs in the sixth to regain the lead. The Eagles held the Lady Cubs scoreless to pick up the win.
Taylor Shook was the winning pitcher for Uniontown with three strikeouts. Melissa Davidson had six strikeouts as the losing pitcher.
Shook tripled and had two singles for the Eagles. Jessie Camac and Cassie Schwalm each had two singles.
Hope Jurgensen and Rayma Ridge each hit a triple. Audrey Dixon doubled and Tiffany Poyner singled.
For Humboldt, Hannah McCall had a double and a triple while Kylee Carson, Davidson and Hannah Fiene each had a single and a double.
Taylor Fitzmaurice singled twice. Amanda Maxton and Kendahl Young each had a base hit.
In the second game, Humboldt led 2-1 at the end of three innnings. Uniontown used a five-run fourth to take the lead. Up 6-5, the Eagles scored a run in the sixth and five more in the seventh for the win.
Ithaca Marlier picked up the pitching win for the Eagles. Davidson took the loss, issuing six walks and striking out two.
Schwalm hit a double and a single to lead Uniontown. Jurgensen, Marlier and Candice Clayton each had two singles.
Poyner tripled. Shook, Camac and Ridge each had a single.
Carson connected for three singles for Humboldt. Taylyn Wells, Maxton and Young each had two singles. Fitzmaurice tripled. McCall and Fiene each had a single.
