CHANUTE — Uniontown High’s Eagles put together another solid team effort on the golf course. The Eagle girls finished third at Monday’s Chanute High Invitational.
Girard claimed first place with a team total of 199 and Caney Valley was second with a 207. Uniontown beat Chanute by two strokes for third place.
The Eagles combined for a 228 while Chanute had a 230. There were 10 teams with players in the tournament.
Uniontown was led by Sabrena McAnulty, who took the fifth-place medal, shooting a 50. Veronica Harrison carded a 53 for eighth place.
Emily Simpson shot a 54 tying for ninth but lost a scorecard playoff to two other girls. Simpson ended up 11th. Jordan Mason had a 71 to round out the team scoring for the Eagles.
“I thought our girls did a really good job for playing the course for the first time,” said Jason Tourtillott, Eagle head coach. “We have three seniors and four first-year golfers so to place in every meet we’ve gone to this season so far is a success.
“I hope they can continue to build off what they have and see the scores come down a little bit more.
Yates Center High’s Emily Baker and Becky Wendland each had 55s. They tied for 12th with three other golfers.
Other scores for Uniontown were: Sara Heimand with a 72, Monica Ramsey at 73 and Anna Oberle at 83.
Girard’s Timbrelee McNair shot a 37 — 10 strokes lower than the second-place finisher — to win the top-medalist honors.
