FRONTENAC — Marmaton Valley High’s boys tied for third place with Galena in Thursday’s Frontenac High Invitational track meet. There were 12 teams competing.
Uniontown High’s Abbie Smith set two new meet records. She won the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 3 inches. The old mark was 16’11” held by Eldridge in 2004.
Smith broke her own meet mark of 17.2 seconds set last year in the 100-meter high hurdles. She won Thursday’s race in 15.91 seconds.
Smith placed second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles Jessica Schaaf was sixth in the 1600-meter run.
Uniontown’s Jacy Ermel won the shot put with a toss of 32’9 3/4”. She finished second in the javelin at 109’10”, which eclipsed the old meet record of 104’6”, but Jayhawk-Linn’s Miller threw 109’11” Thursday.
Ermel placed fourth in the discus with teammate Abby Dixon in fifth. Dixon was sixth in the shot put.
Marmaton Valley’s Mercedes Trollope was fifth in the triple jump at 27’9 1/2”. Trollope combined with Katie Holman, Destiny Jones and Lydia Lance to win the girls’ weight relay in 1:02.7.
Marmaton Valley’s boys were led by Kurtis LaRue as he took second in the 110-meter high hurdles, 16.64 seconds, and in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, 42.79. He also was third in the long jump at 19’71/2”.
Tanner McNutt finished second in the 400-meter dash in 53.49 seconds. He was fourth in the triple jump at 37’6 1/4” with Carlos Gonzales in sixth at 32’6”.
Shawn Storrer had a throw of 131’8” to take third in the javelin with Marmaton Valley teammate Josh Kale taking sixth at 119’10”. Kaleb Stroud was sixth in the shot put at 37’6 1/2”.
Marmaton Valley’s Zach Louk placed third in the 1600-meter run in 4:57 and third in the 3200-meter run in 10:58.
Jacob Conkling, Goncales, Storrer and McNutt combined for a second-place finish in 3:54 in the 4×400-meter relay race. Marmaton Valley’s 4×100-meter relay team of Gonzales, Daylen Houk, Skyler Houk and LaRue took third in 48.37 seconds.
The Wildcat 4×800-meter relay team of Louk, Lucas Hamlin, Storrer and Gonzales was third in 9:40. The MVHS boys’ weight relay team of Kale, Ryan Stephens, Kaleb Stroud and Devon Boyd was sixth in 54.5 seconds.
Uniontown’s Seth Sympson placed fourth in the high jump and fourth in the 800-meter run. Trenton Miller was fourth in the discus.
Zach Travis placed fourth in the javelin. Ben Dixon took sixth in the long jump and sixth in the 200-meter dash.
