UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle teams rolled to victories in a home Three Rivers League doubleheader Tuesday.
First, the Eagle girls posted a 63-20 win over the visiting Chetopa High Hornet girls. Then, the Eagle boys handed the Hornet boys a 54-29 setback.
Uniontown’s boys stayed undefeated, 5-0, in TRL play and improved to 11-4. The girls are 4-1 in league action and 9-6 overall.
The Eagle teams host Marmaton Valley High’s squads Friday in league contests.
“I thought our kids came out and executed well tonight,” said Nathan Hinrichs, Eagle boys’ head coach. “It was great to get positive contributions from so many kids.”
Brenton Esslinger topped the Eagle scoring list with 14 points followed by Seth Sympson with 12. Zach Travis added 10 points. Five others scored two or more points.
Austen Sanders led the Hornets with nine points. Tyler Pike had eight.
The Eagle girls extended their first-quarter lead of 14-7 with a 27-3 run in the second period.
“Our defense fueled our offense tonight,” said Ken Holt, Eagle girls’ head coach. “And it didn’t seem to matter who was on the floor for us.”
Hayden Rathbun paced the Eagles with 15 points and Hope Jurgensen had 13 points. Rathbun and Tayler Shook each had four steals and Jurgensen dished out three of the team’s 18 assists.
DaNisha Robinson and Emily Shinn each pulled five rebounds. The Eagle girls hit 16 of 24 free throw attempts.
Amanda Carrell scored seven points for Chetopa.
