OSWEGO — Uniontown High’s Eagle softball team stormed to two Three Rivers League victories over host Oswego High’s Indians Monday.
The Eagle girls posted a 12-0 win in five innings in the opener. Uniontown used a six-run seocnd to take complete control.
Taylor Wade improved to 4-0 as a starting pitcher for Uniontown. She gave up five hits and had one strikeout.
Hope Jurgensen connected for a double and two singles for Uniontown. Lakyn Coyan and Torrie Hathaway each cranked out three singles.
Tayler Shook tripled and singled. Mandie Ridge had two singles. Jessica Murrow and Wade had a single apiece.
In the second game, the Eagles had a 5-0 lead after two innings then added four runs in the fourth. Oswego scored a run in the fifth and two in the sixth as Uniontown won 9-3. The game was called with one out in the top of the sixth because of lightning.
Wade and Ridge each connected for a single and a double in the contest for the Eaglles. Coyan and Jurgensen had a single apiece.
Uniontown head coach Alan Shinn said the Eagle defense turned away most all of Oswego’s scoring threats. He said the Eagles turned in two “unconventional double plays” — a line out to second baseman Amber Bartlett and a doubling off the runner at first then an “outstanding running catch” by center fielder Sabrena McAnulty and doubling off a runner at second base.
The Eagles improved to 6-0 in TRL play and 7-1 overall.
