Eagle girls power past Jets

UNIONTOWN — Uniontown High’s Eagle girls gave up just two runs in 12 innings of play Thursday night. The Eagles swept a Three Rivers League softball doubleheader at home against Altoona-Midway High’s Jets.
“Our pitching was very good today and the defense made stops and kept their (Altoona-Midway) scoring to a minimum,” said Alan Shinn, Eagle head coach.
Uniontown improved to 9-1 in league play and 12-2 overall. It is at Jayhawk-Linn today.
In the opener, the Eagles soared to an 11-0 win in five innings. They scored eight runs in second inning.
Tayler Shook threw three innings of no-hit softball with five walks and four strikeouts. Mandie Ridge pitched two innings, giving up one hit and striking out three.
Tiffany Poyner and Jessie Camac each had a double. Hitting a single each were Britney Stokes, Hope Jurgensen, Jamie Dawson, Torrie Hathaway, Ridge and Sabrena McAnulty.
The Eagles were up 3-2 when they scored six times in the fifth inning for a 9-2 win. Taylor Wade went the distance on the mound, allowing six hits, walking four and striking out four.
Shook connected for a double and a single and Wade had two base hits. Stokes, Jurgensen, Hathaway and Regan Weyant each had a single.
