YATES CENTER — It was No. 2 against No. 1 in the championship game.
Uniontown High’s Eagles, seeded No. 2 in the 2012 Kansas Class 2-1A Regional Softball Tournament, were where they wanted to be on Tuesday evening. The outcome was not what they wanted.
The Eagles were shut down, 12-1, by top-seeded Jayhawk Linn High’s Jayhawks. The Jayhawks advance to the Class 2-1A state softball tournament next week.
The Jayhawks led 5-0 when the Eagles scored a run in the fourth. Jayhawk-Linn answered with five runs of its own in that inning.
Mandie Ridge and Taylor Wade pitched for Uniontown. They allowed 11 hits and issued five walks in the championship game.
Brittany Stokes doubled. Tayler Shook and Wade each had a single for the Eagles.
Uniontown rolled over Elk Valley 12-2 in the semifinal contest Tuesday. Jayhawk-Linn defeated host team, Yates Center 4-1.
Wade got the pitching win against Elk Valley. She gave up five hits and walked one. She struck out two.
Hope Jurgensen connected for two singles. Jamie Dawson hit a home run over the fence and Brittany Tanner tripled.
Hitting a single each were Lakyn Coyan, Stokes, Ridge and Torrie Hathaway.
The Eagles finished at 16-7 for the season.
