OSWEGO — Uniontown High’s Eagle boys had strong runs in the first and third quarters which carried them to a 55-45 win over host Oswego High’s Indians Tuesday. The win boosted the Eagle boys to a 2-0 Three Rivers League mark and 7-1 overall.
The Eagle boys rolled out to a 12-4 lead but only had a 24-20 halftime lead. They outscored Oswego 14-6 in the third quarter and held the Indians off down the stretch.
Zach Travis led the Eagle boys with 18 points and Brenton Esslinger added 16. Seth Sympson scored 11 points. Robert Kuns had six points while Domonic Robinson and Max Labbe each had two points.
Tag Oldham scored 17 points for Oswego. Western Eckermann had 10 points.
As the UHS boys found the offense to win, the Eagle girls are stymied.
“We have got to figure out why we can’t score in the second and fourth quarters. This is the second game in a row,” said Ken Holt, Eagle girls’ head coach. “We shot the ball poorly and it is like it is contagious or something.”
After a 10-10 first quarter, the Uniontown girls got outscored by Oswego 13-2. Another even quarter — 12-12 — then the Indian girls pulled away from the Eagles 17-6 in the fourth period for a 52-30 win.
Uniontown shot a chilly 21 percent, 12 of 56, from the field. Oswego was 23 of 58, 40 percent, from the field.
Hayden Rathbun had nine points, nine rebounds and four assists. DaNisha Robinson had nine rebounds and Hope Jurgensen had 13 rebounds.
Oswego’s Sydney Pemberton dropped in 26 points and Jaymie Nesbitt chipped in 11 points.
Uniontown’s girls are 1-1 in TRL play and 5-3 overall.
