Eagle boys record first win, girls beat Hume

Uniontown High’s baseball and softball played at home Thursday. They were scheduled for doubleheaders but only got one full game victory. The second games were cut short.

The Eagle boys recorded their first win of the baseball season at home Thursday night. Actually, they got two wins but one was a forfeit by visiting Hume High’s Bulldogs of Hume, Mo.

Uniontown’s softball team defeated Hume 6-0 in the opener. The softball teams got in 3½ innings before Hume had to pack up and leave. The Eagle girls won 8-6.

Hume had a conflict in scheduling and had to leave because of another commitment at home.

The Eagle boys went into the non-league doubleheader 0-10 and beat the Bulldogs 12-2 in five innings. The Bulldogs led 2-1 after one inning then the Eagles scored five runs in the second, highlighted by Jordan Woods’ fourth home run of the season. Woods parked a pitch over the left-center field fence for a two-run blast.

Uniontown added on two runs in the fourth and four in the fifth. Woods also had single in the game. Mitchell Newman and Jacob Duffey each had two singles. Max Labbe, John Kuns and Chase Gleason hit a single apiece.

Kuns was the winning pitcher for Uniontown. He gave up six hits, hit a batter and struck out seven.

The baseball teams played one inning of the second game then the Bulldogs had to leave.

On the softball diamond,  Uniontown shut out Hume 6-0 in the first game. Taylor Wade allowed three hits and one walk while striking out five for the pitching victory.

The Eagle girls followed a   two-one pattern in the game. They scored two runs in the second, one in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Jamie Dawson doubled and singled for the Eagles. Hitting a single each were Britney Stokes, Hope Jurgensen, Tayler Shook and Mandie Ridge.

In the second game, Hume scored three runs in the first inning. Uniontown answered with four runs of its own in the bottom half of the inning. The teams did the same thing in the third to leave the score at 8-6.

Ridge was the winning pitcher for the Eagles. She gave up seven hits, walked three and struck out five.

Uniontown (12-2) had four singles from Ridge, Lakin Coyan and Shook.

Uniontown’s teams host Neodesha High’s squads on Monday.
