Devils still in playoffs

LIBERAL — Today’s Region VI Super Regional final hosted by Seward County Community College is an all Jayhawk Eastern Division final.

Allen Community College’s Red Devils, 2-1 in the super regional, plays Coffeyville Community College’s Red Ravens, 2-0, this afternoon at Liberal.

The Red Devils defeated top-seeded Seward County 15-11 in 10 innings Saturday. All games in the regional are nine-inning contests. Allen was down 6-4 when it scored seven runs in the ninth but Seward rallied for five in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 11-11.

Allen scored four times in the top of the 10th and held Seward County scoreless. Tanner Lee picked up the win in relief. Zac Mickens started the game and went 6 1/3 innings then Bill Wiginton for 2 1/3 innings and Lucas Westervelt.

Lee pitched 1 1/3 innings, giving no runs on one hit and one walk with one strikeout. Caleb Wilburn, Kyle Johnston and Kyle Fultz each had a home run for Allen.

Lee got the save in Sunday’s elimination game victory over Colby Community College. Jake Johnson came on in relief of starter Joe Mapes, who went five innings. Johnson pitched 2 1/3 innings then Lee was able to pitch out of two jams in the eighth and ninth innings to allow ACC win 4-3.

Coffeyville had beaten Colby Saturday 11-10, rallying for seven runs in the seventh. Colby ousted Seward County in an elimination game Saturday by the score of 13-4 in six innings.

On Sunday in the winners’ semifinal, Coffeyville got past Allen 4-0. Jared Sterling pitched six innings and Brodie Mitchell went three innings. Coffeyville limited Allen to six hits.

If Allen wins today’s game, the two teams play again at 4 o’clock to determine the championship. The winner advances to the NJCAA Region VI Central District Tournament in Wichita this weekend.
