Allen Community College baseball opened up its 2019-20 season against Iowa Lakes Community College over the weekend.
The Red Devils split with the Lakers on Saturday, earning an 8-4 win in the first game, and losing 14-5 in the second. On Sunday, the Red Devils were held scoreless in a 9-inning affair, losing 3-0.
In game 1, the Lakers held a four-run lead with the Red Devils at the plate in the bottom of the third. ACC tallied off three runs in the third, and added two apiece in the fourth and fifth innings.
Vinny Tinoco, Lukas Rich, Kurt Golubski and Devon Tukes all collected a hit each. Tinoco, Rich and Golubski finished with two RBIs apiece, and Tukes added an RBI of his own.
On the mound, Alex Kafka was granted the win, pitching four innings and allowing no runs while giving up only two hits.
The Red Devils led 2-1 after the first inning in game 2. Tinoco opened with a lead-off single, and Landon Dull was walked. Rich brought home both runners with an RBI double, but that would be ACC’s last lead of the evening.
The Lakers took a 3-2 lead heading into the bottom of the third, but a homerun from Jake Nemith put the Red Devils back on level terms. The Lakers answered ACC’s third-inning bomb with a seven-run inning, taking a commanding 11-5 lead. ACC earned two runs back in the bottom half, but were held scoreless in the final three innings.
LADY DEVILS
ACC softball also opened up its season over the weekend. The Lady Devils were bested by Hutchinson Community College in both games on Sunday, losing 9-0 and 18-1. The solo ACC run came courtesy of a home run from Riley Zook.
