After winning 11 straight games, Allen Community College has fallen short in its last two.
The Red Devils were defeated in an overtime thriller in El Dorado against Butler Community College, losing 93-90.
After Butler held a short 3-0 lead in the first minute of the game, ACC stormed past the Grizzlies for the next 19 minutes. ACC held a 37-30 lead at the break. In the first half, ACC shot an impressive 6/12 from 3-point land.
In the second half the Red Devils continued to dominate. ACC firmly held an eight-point lead with less than two minutes remaining in regulation, but the lead went by the wayside. An accumulation of missed free throws and careless turnovers brought Butler back into the game.
With the score tied at 79-79 in the final seconds of regulation, ACCs Tyus Jeffries had one final shot to save the Red Devils from overtime. The look inside fell short.
After back-and-forth scoring in the overtime period, the Grizzlies held a three-point lead in the final minute. With 32 seconds remaining, Trez Hankins connected on a contested try to level the score. But moments later, the Grizzlies connected with a try of their own to ice the game in the final moments.
Malik Hardmon finished as ACCs leading scorer with 19 points. Three more Red Devils finished in double figures, Hankins, Jeffries, and sixth-man Joel Boyce all finished with 17 points.
With the loss, ACC slips to third behind Cowley and Butler in the Jayhawk East. The Red Devils host Coffeyville at 4 p.m. Saturday. The Red Ravens are 6-4 in the conference.
