HUMBOLDT — Jada Dangerfield will keep her volleyball talents in Allen County in the fall.
The Humboldt High senior signed a letter of intent Thursday to play volleyball for Whitney Shaw at Allen Community College.
Dangerfield earned all Tri-Valley League honors as a senior, along with teammates Jessica Myers and Kirsten Murrow.
“Dangerfield was second on the Lady Cubs in kills with 79, while compiling a team-leading 71 digs. She had 11 aces and two blocks on the court.
Terry Meadows, HHS head volleyball coach, praised Dangerfield’s ability to play various styles on the court.
“She’s a really good, all-around volleyball player,” Meadows said. “She’s a good blocker, she has good instincts, and she’s a good defender.”
Allen appealed for several reasons, Dangerfield said.
“It’s local, and I know the coach (Whitney Shaw),” she said. “I’ve had friends play there, and they’ve all had good things to say about the program.”
Dangerfield plans to get her general education classes out of the way at Allen, then transfer to Wichita State University to study psychology.
“I just kind of want to get on my feet a little bit,” Dangerfield continued. “Hopefully by my second year, I’ll know what I’m doing.”
Getting an opportunity to play in front of her family and friends, particularly her grandmother, Bonita Strack, also is appealing.
“Why would I not?” she asked rhetorically. “If I can keep playing and stay active, I want to do that.”
