HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s defensive prowess was on full display Friday night.
The Cubs forced six turnovers — five on interceptions — while registering eight tackles for loss in a 56-0 shutout win over Neodesha.
The contest offered a night of many stars for the victorious Cubs.
Senior quarterback Gavin Page completed all six of his pass attempts, covering 139 yards and two touchdowns, one for 48 yards to Dakota Slocum, the other a 40-yarder to Sam Hull.
The Cubs also amassed 271 rushing yards, including 98 for Page, 63 for Trey Sommer on 11 carries, 51 for Aiden Gean on three totes and 25 yards for Blake Ellis.
Hull led receivers with two catches for 80 yards, while also completing his only pass attempt for 15 yards. Cole Mathes had a 15-yard reception, and Logan Page caught a 10-yard pass.
Slocum led the ball-hawking defense with two interceptions. Ellis, Sommer and Mateo Miller also intercepted Bluestreak passes. Maddox Johnson recovered a fumble as well.
River Kaufman had nine tackles, three for losses, while Johnson had six tackles, two for losses.
The Cubs were particularly stingy with its rushing defense, limiting Neodesha to minus-11 yards on the ground.
