Cubs’ Kline earns trio of league titles

LEON — Humboldt’s Joe Kline owned the long-distance events in his final Tri-Valley League meet on Friday in Leon.
The senior took first in the 800-meter run, 1600-meter run and the 3200-meter run to lead his Cubs to a second-place finish overall.
Kline finished with times of 2:08.88 in the 800 meters, 5:01.9 in the 1600 meters and 11:23.35 in the 3200 meters. The Cub standout showed his versatility by taking fourth in the shot put.
Humboldt also picked up three first-place marks in the field events to boost the team’s score.
Colin Gillespie won the high jump title by clearing 5’11”. He also finished sixth in the triple jump and fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Tucker Hurst won the discus competition with a 132’4”. He also placed fifth in both the shot put and triple jump.
Colton Riebel rounded out the individual champions for the Cubs by winning the shot put with a 41’2”.
Zach Korte was second in the discus.
The 4×800 relay team of Isiah Coronado, Miah Schiemann, Caleb Coronado and Seth Barlow finished second.
Caleb Coronado took third in the 1600-meter run and Seth Hegwald was third in the javelin to round out the top-three place earners for Humboldt.

GIRLS
Strong relay teams secured Humboldt to a third-place finish in the Tri Valley meet.
Bailey Goodell anchored a pair of Cub relay teams that took home league titles in the 4×400 and the 4×800.
Annalise Whitcomb, Kaylie Johnson and Lizzie Myers joined Goodell on the 4×400 relay team which ran a 4:40.92.
Britnee Works, Brianna Baker and Padyne Durand teamed up with Goodell to run a 11:42.12 in the 4×800 relay.
Johnson won the team’s other gold medal with a leap of 15’2.5” in the long jump. She also took third in the triple jump.
Works took second in the high jump and fifth in the pole vault.
Durand finished second in the 100-meter hurdles, fifth in the 300-meter hurdles and sixth  in the pole vault.
Myers picked up a pair of bronze medals in the high jump and 800-meter run. She also finished sixth in the 100-meter run.
Savanna Puckett had a strong day in the sprinting events with a third-place finish in the 400-meter dash, a fourth in the 200-meter dash and a fifth in the 100-meter dash.

UP NEXT
Humboldt will now  hope the rain holds off and get ready for its 3A regional meet on Friday  afternoon at 3 p.m., in Fredonia.
