FREDONIA — Even with a short-handed squad as several of their wrestlers went to Saturday’s Tri-Valley Powerlifting Meet instead of the Fredonia Invitational, the Humboldt Cubs were able to come away from Fredonia with some positive results.
The highlight of the tournament was Gunner Elder’s championship at 113 pounds.
In the first round, Elder pinned Fredonia’s Dallas Davis in just 21 seconds. Next, he picked up a 15-0 tech-fall over Labette County’s Colton Chapman and then he took the title with a major decision over Abilene’s Colby Mohr.
Humboldt sophomore Dagen Goodner took second place at 160 pounds and finished the tournament with a 3-1 record.
Speed Hoepker and Brady Slocum also competed for the Cubs.
