Cubs wrestling finishes fifth at Tri-Valley League tourney

The Humboldt Cubs finished fifth in the Tri-Valley League tournament at Eureka High School on Friday scoring 101 points as a team.
All six of the Cubs wrestlers finished in the top three with Seth Hegwald leading the way with a first-place finish in the 195-pound weight class with a 1-0 record.
Noah Johnson (220-pound), Dagen Goodner (182-pound) and Josh Vanatta (132-pound) each finished runner-up while Reid Barnett (145-pound) and Clay Shannon (120-pound) finished third overall.
“It was a good feeling to see all of the Humboldt wrestlers that we took to the league meet up on the podium,” head coach Kent Goodner said.
On Saturday, the Cubs traveled to McPherson where Cheyenne Harris competed in the Kansas Girls State Tournament. She finished sixth in the 138-pound weight class.
Humboldt will compete in the Eureka regional this Friday and Saturday where they will try to get as many of those wrestlers qualified for state in at Hays on Feb. 23 and 24.
Last year, Humboldt sent three wrestlers to the state tournament.
