HUMBOLDT — Humboldt High’s boys began to click offensively in the second half Tuesday. Their defense was solid throughout.
The Cubs turned a four-point halftime lead over visiting Eureka High into a 46-30 win.
The victory improves Humboldt’s record to 4-8, including a 4-2 mark since the Christmas break.
“In the first half, we didn’t have a lot of continuity,” Humboldt head coach David Taylor said. “The first three minutes of the second half, we did a good job of forcing some turnovers and we did a good job with our entry passes.”
The teams were knotted at 12-12 after one quarter before Humboldt forged out a 20-16 halftime lead. The margin grew to nine, 32-23, after three quarters. Humboldt ended the game with a 14-7 run to seal the win.
Noah Thornburgh led Humboldt with 21 points and 10 rebounds, while Tanner McNutt had seven points and four steals. Derrik McCall dished out four assists.
Braden Barrett led the Tornadoes with 11 points.
Humboldt resumes play Friday at home against Fredonia.
