Cubs struggle at Cherryvale

CHERRYVALE — The Humboldt Middle School boys and girls traveled to Cherryvale on Thursday and struggled, winning just one of their games against the Chargers.

The seventh-grade boys were the lone winners, beating Cherryvale 33-29.

Sam Hull led the way with 16 points and nine rebounds followed by Garren Goodner who had nine points and seven rebounds. Landon Bauer had four points and two steals, Caden Vink had two points and four rebounds and Bradley Lowry had two rebounds and five steals.

In total, the team had 12 steals.

“I’m very proud of the effort tonight,” head coach Jeremy Weilert said. “We battled the entire game.”

The eighth-grade boys lost 55-28.

Trey Sommer had 12 points and five rebounds, Maddox Johnson had seven points and three rebounds, Aiden Gean had six points, Kaden Barnhart had two points and River Kaufman had a point.

“Cherryvale is a very good team,” Weilert said. “I can not fault our effort tonight, they were just a better team than us.”

Meanwhile, the Humboldt girls struggled down the board.

The Lady Cub A-Team lost 28-19.

Emily Ross and Kenisyn Hottenstein each had six points, Karley Wools had three steals and Emily Ross had seven rebounds.

They lost the B game, 19-8. Morgan Hunter had four points.

The C-team lost 8-4.

Meeka Harris and Ashlynn Works each had two points.

The middle school Cubs will host Caney Valley today.
