Cubs record first victory of season

EUREKA — After dropping a 15-5 decision in the first game Tuesday, Humboldt High’s Cubs roared back to defeat host Eureka High’s Tornadoes 16-6.
Elijah Friederich limited the Tornadoes to six hits while walking five. Friederich notched 10 strikeouts.
It was the first win of the season for the Cubs. They improved to 1-5 in Tri-Valley League play and 1-7 overall.
Friederich was 5-for-5 with four singles and a triple. Seth Nickell had a double and a single. Jacob Manbeck, Michael Zimmerman and Riley McMillen each had two singles.
Derrick McCall doubled. Chris Coronado and Robb Hauser each singled.
In the first game, Humboldt made 12 errors behind the pitching of Nickell.
Coronado had two doubles in the game. Friederich and Manbeck hit two singles each. Zimmerman singled.
