FREDONIA — The Humboldt track and field team enjoyed a very successful day on Thursday during their regional meet in Fredonia
The Cubs will be sending 11 athletes to the State Track and Field Championships next Thursday and Friday in Wichita.
Among those are seven girls, who as a team took third in the regional meet.
Senior Annalise Whitcomb will be making her third trip to a state-level event this year after helping to lead the Cub basketball and volleyball teams to state earlier this year. She qualified with Padyne Durand, Bailey Goodell and Lizzie Myers in the 4×800 relay. They took fourth in the region.
Sophomore Kaylie Johnson was also a member of both the basketball and volleyball teams and she will soar into Wichita after winning the long jump with a 15’11” and taking second in the triple jump with a 33’4”.
Goodell also qualified in the long jump by finishing fourth with a 14’8”.
Brintee Works rounds out the state-qualifying jumpers after she took fourth in the high jump with a 4’10”.
Durand also made the state field in the 100-meter hurdles with an 18.77 to place fourth.
Sophomore Savanna Puckett will return to state this season with a new uniform.
The Marmaton Valley transfer qualified for state last season and did so again this year. Her 28.16 was third in the 200-meter dash and her 1:04.41 got her third in the 400-meter dash.
BOYS
Humboldt senior Joe Kline will headed into Wichita with big expectations after the Allen Community College commit won both the 800-meter run and 1600-meter run in Fredonia.
Kline finished with a 4:43.26 in the 1600 meters and a 2:00.22 in the 800 meters.
The Cubs picked up the other three qualifiers in the field events.
Tucker Hurst won the discus with a 127’2” and Zach Korte finished third with a 188’8”.
Colin Gillespie will make a return trip to state in the high jump after clearing 6’0” to win the region.
The Cubs took fifth as a team.
